about

‘The Girl and the Ghost’ is the debut EP from the new collaboration of Seattle natives, songstress Lerin Herzer, and composer Andrew Joslyn.

Seattle-native Composer/Orchestrator/Violinist, Andrew Joslyn has been playing violin since he was 5 years old. His formative years were spent studying music composition/performance in college, however, Andrew broke from the regimented routine of his classical training and delved into his own exploration of contemporary music, ranging from rock, folk, world, to hip-hop, film, and electronic. Within the last year, he became involved with the Seattle Rock Orchestra as one of their main omposers/orchestrators. Now a seasoned performer, composer, and arranger, he has worked with some of the most iconic Northwest musicians and beyond, including: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, David Bazan, Allen Stone, Ivan & Alyosha, Kris Orlowski, We Are Augustines, and more.

While growing up in the Seattle area, singer/songwriter Lerin Herzer had a love for the cinematic scores that set the tone of some of her favorite movies. At four years old, after hearing a particularly inspiring theme, she sat down at the piano and sounded out the notes. Her father, also a musician, heard her play and signed her up for piano lessons. Although she had training in classical music during those lessons, Lerin was always drawn more to cinematic scores and soundscapes tied to the movies she enjoyed. Lerin continued her formal music education in college, where she studied music theory and composition.

This new project between Andrew and Lerin came about in an organic way, and has been a long one in the making. The duet had started work on Lerin’s song “Meant to Move” originally with another songwriter Zach Fleury, but due to life, and schedules, it was put on hold. After much deliberation, Herzer and Joslyn finally revived the idea of working together, and that is where the story of their new 4 song EP, “The Girl and the Ghost” begins. At times heart wrenching, forlorn, and beautiful and at other times cinematic and lush – the album is built on a mutual love of film soundtracks, and soulful stories. The four songs on the EP are rich with building string arrangements and haunting vocals, piano melodies with a vintage feel and an originality that comes from the meeting of two great musical minds.
