'The Dead of Winter is the sophomore EP from the collaborative team of Seattle natives, songstress Lerin Herzer, and composer/orchestral producer Andrew Joslyn.
Seattle-native Composer/Orchestrator/Violinist, Andrew Joslyn has been playing violin since he was 5 years old. His formative years were spent studying music composition/performance in college, however, Andrew broke from the regimented routine of his classical training and delved into his own exploration of contemporary music, ranging from rock, folk, world, to hip-hop, film, and electronic. Now a seasoned performer, composer, and arranger, he has worked with some of the most iconic Northwest musicians and beyond, including: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, David Bazan, Judy Collins, Tom Chaplin (Keane), Kris Orlowski, Augustines, and more.
While growing up in the Seattle area, singer/songwriter Lerin Herzer had a love for the cinematic scores that set the tone of some of her favorite movies. At four years old, after hearing a particularly inspiring theme, she sat down at the piano and sounded out the notes. Her father, also a musician, heard her play and signed her up for piano lessons. Although she had training in classical music during those lessons, Lerin was always drawn more to cinematic scores and soundscapes tied to the movies she enjoyed. Lerin continued her formal music education in college, where she studied music theory and composition.
This new album from Andrew and Lerin further deepens their cinematic folk soundscapes, and is a heartbreaking look at broken relationships, disappointments, and being all too familiar with the melancholy of failure. Yet their collaboration brings forth a cerebral, and picturesque offering to the minds of all fallen wishes, and hopes at best to find a sense of wonder and beauty in the ghosts of our past.
